I didn’t want to do this but I’ve been driven to it.
There may be a Herts County Council vs Alice take two.
Living with a Jude lived dormant for the past however many years. And while I’ve always wanted to restart it again, I didn’t really feel there was much to contribute. Life has been ticking along quite perfectly for Jude. His school continues to be incredible – he’s loving being at home and as such, harmony reins.
However, Jude is 18 now. Can you believe it? In fact, he’s nearly 19 and as such, is moving into adult services.
You would think that with as many years recorded on file, the transition would be fairly smooth. However, with the lack of trust I have in the LA, and to mitigate any concern, we began the “process” about eight months ago. But have we got anywhere at all? Have we heck.
I think I now vaguely understand the process we have to go through in order to reach the holy grail of Adult Services but my god, it is ridiculous.
And as someone with a fleeting level of intelligence, I can only imagine the horrors that many people feel if they are time poor, struggling to understand what to do, lacking support or finances, and so on.
So, I’m going to change the motion of Living with a Jude. I want to help people as much as I can – from the many years of stress I’ve experienced in trying to get Jude the support he needs and rightfully deserves, I feel my knowledge could be of use.
I know reading isn’t for everyone. So I’m in the process of something bigger and more interactive. Will keep you up to date.
For now, and as a useful reference, I’m going to provide lists of legal authorities who help families like ours, speak to lawyers themselves for hints and tips, and hopefully speak to parents like me so we can share knowledge.
My first piece of advice for anyone with a child nearing the age of 18 – get your deputyship sorted!
Love to you all x
