As I child I was disgracefully messy. I didn’t notice it at the time and had no understanding of why people tidied up all the time. The way I saw it was, if it’s in the middle of the floor exactly where I dumped it then I can’t lose it, right?
Now, as an adult, I long for an immaculately tidy house, you know like one of those show homes you see the celebrities living in with matching everything, perfectly rowed up framed photos on the stairway and no shoes distributed throughout the hall. Having said that, with three children, a husband and three pets, it’s a bit of a nightmare. I just can’t be bothered and feel like I’m constantly picking stuff up, just for the children to ruin it all again (or Joe!) It starts to take over your life so I’m kind of residing myself to the fact our house will always look “lived in.”
My kitchen needs to be tidy but beyond that, it’s a bit of a free for all. I’ve recently got into the habit of having a tidy up at various points throughout the day and I only clean the floors downstairs once everyone has finished playing in the garden. The children are very outdoorsy and now the weather is turning, it’s like a mud-fest running from the backdoor throughout the living room and kitchen!
Once Jude is finally at school (meeting tomorrow so I’ll update you on that then!) and Emmeline is attending nursery more often then we can attempt to create some form of civility within the home. We’re also still finishing off various bits of building work and decoration but I am confident it will all look lovely soon. I don’t want a sterile environment, people can become obsessed with organisation and that just isn’t me.
Now, I have always felt the star signs have a say in our lives and as a very typical Aquarian I’m always looking to see if my behaviours and mannerisms have my birth status as an excuse (I’m always looking for excuses.)
I read this recently as an Aquarian description and literally everything within this text is exactly me:
Aquarius-born are shy and quiet , but on the other hand they can be eccentric and energetic. However, in both cases, they are deep thinkers and highly intellectual people who love helping others. They are able to see without prejudice, on both sides, which makes them people who can easily solve problems.
Although they can easily adapt to the energy that surrounds them, Aquarius-born have a deep need to be some time alone and away from everything, in order to restore power. People born under the Aquarius sign, look at the world as a place full of possibilities.
Aquarius is an air sign, and as such, uses his mind at every opportunity. If there is no mental stimulation, they are bored and lack a motivation to achieve the best result.
Uranus also gave them the power of quick and easy transformation, so they are known as thinkers, progressives and humanists. They feel good in a group or a community, so they constantly strive to be surrounded by other people.
The biggest problem for Aquarius-born is the feeling that they are limited or constrained. Because of the desire for freedom and equality for all, they will always strive to ensure freedom of speech and movement. Aquarius-born have a reputation for being cold and insensitive persons, but this is just their defence mechanism.
Then I saw this diagram –
See, it’s all those parties I must be having! But it’s true though, Aquarians are creative and messy at heart. Here’s some proof – my desk at the moment is shocking and that pile of paper on the top is everything that needs filing at the moment. Let’s not go into my filing system.
I actually delegated Joe as my official filer recently as he claims to be a pro but so far he’s done nothing (see above pile of crap on desk.)
I need this in my life.
I’ve been looking at desks recently that have drawers as I need to hide all my junk. The tidy side of me wants to see clean lines but the #OrganisedMess side of me needs to know my stuff is all where I left it. There are some nice desks on furniture-work.co.uk They are quite office-y but I’m lusting after a little retreat in the garden so have been imagining how I could design it just for me.
How I’d love my desk to look!
What’s your organisational style? Can you relate to the graph above?
*This is a collaborative post however all words, thoughts, suggestions and mess is my own.
